it’s morning and I’m pleading
with the bright sun

stepping lightly
tormented
tossing

on the way to work
pinkish sky in my peripheral
memories at the forefront
still and sorry
remembering seems to steal today
minutes pass
dormant

a crust of white snow
I must decide
to make something
new

Gray Sucks

I reduce everything to black or white:
All or nothing.
Good or evil.
Needy or independent.
Happy or sad.

It’s deliciously dramatic,
the high contrast.
No questioning.
Absolute.
Controlled.
Categorical.
Single-minded.
Precise.

And darn it,
I can’t trap you
because you’re absolutely gray.
